Wednesday, June 14th 6-8pm The Woodman Museum's new gallery exhibit, "The Port of Dover," is open to the public. Our exhibit highlights the prominence of our lovely city as a bustling trading port. Dover's history is inextricably linked with the Cochecho River, upon which it was founded. Our show offers a glimpse into its spectacular past, from the humble gundalow captains to the massive schooners that docked at the landing. To tell the story, we have put together a collection of artifacts, maps, original fine art, and models! Come visit! The Port of Dover exhibit will be open for the months of June and July. There is no admission fee. Call for Cast Members: Woodman Museum’s “Night at the Museum” event returns in October For its 5th annual re-enactment event, the Woodman Museum will present “More Voices from the Cemetery” on October 14-15, 2017 on the grounds of Dover’s picturesque and historic Pine Hill Cemetery. Approximately 60 cast members are being sought to act, lead tours, or provide event assistance during this 2-day production when dozens of famous (or infamous) Dover residents will rise from the dead at their gravesites to entertain you with details from their most interesting lives! All acting roles are for adults, but no acting experience is required! We are seeking individuals with an interest in bringing history to life, and in helping Dover’s oldest museum, now in its 101 st year. In two dozen scenes, laid out all over Pine Hill Cemetery, history will come to life in October during the 90-minute escorted tours of this burial ground that dates from 1731. More than 40 noted, nefarious, or notorious Dover citizens will come to life beside their headstones, regaling visitors with tales of mirth, woe, and amazement! Among the residents lifting their voices in the cemetery will be sea captains, business leaders, soldiers, politicians, ministers, lost lovers, and even a famous opera singer! For those thinking about participating, there will be a Cast Orientation Session on Thursday, August 24 at 6:30pm at the Museum’s Keefe House (15 Summer St.). You are invited to meet the production staff, ask questions, and talk with others who’ve participated in previous “Night at the Museum” events. After the orientation, you can decide if you’d like to sign on to the cast as a character, as a Tour Guide, or help out behind the scenes. Tickets for “More Voices from the Cemetery” will go on sale in September at the Woodman Museum and on its website. This is a family-friendly tour, suitable for all ages. Prices are $15 for adults and $5 for children under 12. For additional information and/or to volunteer with “More Voices from the Cemetery”, call the Woodman Museum at 603-742- 1038. To sign up for an acting role on our website, visit: https://woodmanmuseum.org/night-museum-2017-casting/.

Juleen Stacy was born in Northern Virginia. She graduated from Mary Washington College with a BA in Studio Art, then went to work for a textile designer in the DC Metropolitan area. Her work was seen in collections produced by such prestigious names such as, F. Schumacher & Co., St. Clair, Bard, Avon, Lenox and others. She worked as an event coordinator in DC for several years putting her creativity into lively events for the corporate and private sector. She finally returned to her first love, painting, just a few years ago. She started out painting strictly botanical art but has since branched out to include a variety of still-life subjects. Her work is produced using oil, acrylic, gouache (opaque watercolor), watercolor, pencil, encaustic, silverpoint and charcoal. Juleen is a resident at the The Art Center. More information can be found here. Also on display are the works of painter Jim Reagan. Reagan, a painter who paints outdoors whenever possible, is all about sunshine and light. Primarily a landscape artist, he chooses the rugged seacoast of the New England coast and pastoral calm of the land. Still, his work isn’t limited to New England scenes alone – his travels also come to life in many of his watercolor collages. Jim studied art at Bowling Green State University, graduating with a b.s.in art education, After leaving teaching Jim coupled painting with a life in the airline industry as a flight attendant thus giving him blocks of time to devote to artistic development. Creative people need solitude, lack of distraction, and unadulterated concentration. Ted Reynolds was born in Dover, New Hampshire, where he spent most of his early life, on March 11, 1928. After attending Dover High School he moved to New York City in order to pursue his career as an artist. During these years Reynolds not only developed his signature style of painting but studied other artistic media as well. Through his studies at Parsons School of Design, Rhode Island School of Design, and Arts Student League in Fashion, Reynolds became involved in a variety of projects. At the Parson School of Design, he studied fashion illustration, which later led to his involvement as Head of Design for menswear company Taylor Ties. While living in New York City, he was hired for a variety of jobs, ranging from designing showcases and displays for the Rockefeller Center to creating animated drawings for television commercials. In 1966, Reynolds returned to Dover from New York City and managed and maintained an art gallery in Portsmouth. During this time he worked as a freelance artist, while also teaching private lessons in painting and watercolor to community members.   Reynold’s talents ranged across many artistic disciplines but he is most remembered for his paintings and portraits. His art is displayed not only across the United States but in several private European collections as well. During his time as a freelance artist he was a favorite of Sarah Lee, president of the Tom Lee, Ltd., one of New York’s top interior design companies. She was considered to have designed more New York hotel properties than anyone else in the business, where many of Reynolds pieces were commissioned and hung. One of his most notable projects in New York City was for the Helmsley Palace Hotel, where he painted 45 portraits in three months. These portraits were those of guests who might have visited the hotel in 1890, calling on Reynolds talent in historical stylistic paintings. For this commission, Reynolds painted members of the royal court of Europe during the designated time frame, including Edward VII, the Grand Duke of Russia, and King Ferdinand of Romania. His choice of characters and style of painting overall captured the antiquated grandeur of this world class hotel. Praise for Reynolds and this project can be seen through various artistic journals and magazines, as well as through his personal correspondence with Sarah Lee who was “…thrilled at the prospect of beautiful paintings going up, up over Manhattan”.   In addition to the Helmsley Palace Hotel, Reynolds worked as a freelance artist for a variety of other institutions.
